A Caregiver's Story
BAD DAY!
Today is not a good day. Not a good day at all.
I don’t know how much more that I can take. Today is not a good day.
I watched a Caregiver video today. A video that came up after one of my Podcast Episodes on YouTube. The video mentioned a story of a Caregiver.
The Caregiver had been taking care of her mother for a number of years. She had asked for help. She cried to her Friends. She tried to explain to her Siblings that she was at the end of her rope. She called the State Agencies and reached out to doctors; but nothing seemed to help.
She was doing the absolute best that she could do. The woman who was telling the story was a concerned neighbor. She thought that she had been helping the woman. She suggested that she take a break, that she makes time for herself. She thought she was being helpful. She was NOT helpful. Saying those things is not helpful.
Because the only thing that truly helps the Caregiver is to not be a Caregiver. That’s just my thought but let’s get back to the story.
One day, this Caregiver went home and burned the house down. The house burned killing both the Caregiver and her mother.
The Neighbor, the woman telling the story still didn’t understand. As she recounted the events, I couldn’t help but think, “You don’t have a clue.”
And most people don’t have a clue.
When people ask. “How are things going?”
I often respond by saying, “Everyone is still alive!”
I don’t have anyone in my life who truly understands what I am going through. Because it’s happening to me. And even when I try to explain, I can’t make you understand.
“Everyone is still alive.”
Today is not a good day. Because today I understand exactly why that Caregiver set the house aflame. She had lost all sense of herself. She had no hope. She could not see an end to the situation at hand. She sincerely felt that things would be better if…
So, when a Caregiver says, “Everyone is still alive!” that’s a good thing. It’s not a cry for help. It’s not a warning sign. It is a true statement of fact.
I’m a Caregiver and I know that of which I speak.
